You Might Be Noticing
Finding yourself in the same relationship dynamics again and again, even when you are trying to do things differently.
Wanting connection but finding it hard to let people in, or feeling disconnected even in relationships that matter to you.
Getting triggered in relationships in ways that feel bigger than the moment, and not understanding where the intensity is coming from.
Putting others first to the point where your own needs, opinions, or sense of self gets pushed aside to keep things comfortable.

Why Patterns in Relationships Can Be So Hard to Change
Relationship patterns are not character flaws. They are strategies your nervous system and your parts developed, often early in life, to navigate connection and protect you from getting hurt. The difficulty is that those strategies were built for a different time, and they can continue running automatically in the present even when they no longer serve you.

Understanding where a pattern began is often the first step toward something different.

Building Awareness and New Ways of Relating
Understanding your patterns in relationships is often the most important first step. This might look like noticing how you show up in connection with others, recognising what gets triggered and when, and beginning to build different ways of responding that feel more aligned with who you want to be.
CBT helps you become more aware of the thought patterns and beliefs that drive how you behave in relationships. Many of the assumptions we carry about relationships, about whether we are lovable, whether people can be trusted, whether conflict means abandonment, develop automatically and often without our awareness. CBT can help bring those patterns into view and begin to shift them.
DBT offers practical skills for navigating relationships more effectively, including how to communicate needs, set limits, and manage the intense emotions that can arise in close relationships. These skills can make a meaningful difference in how relationships feel day to day.
Sometimes the parts of us that show up most strongly in relationships are the ones that learned early on that connection was not always safe. Parts-based work helps us get curious about those parts, understand what they are protecting, and begin to build a different relationship with them so they do not have to run the show quite so much.

Exploring the Roots of Your Patterns
For many people, relationship patterns are deeply connected to earlier experiences, particularly early relational experiences that shaped how we learned to give and receive connection. Understanding those roots can be where something begins to shift in a more lasting way.
When relationship patterns are rooted in earlier experiences that were distressing or overwhelming, EMDR can help process what is underneath. This is not about talking extensively about what happened, but about helping your brain begin to reprocess the experiences that are still shaping how you show up in relationships today.
Parts-based work is particularly powerful for relationship patterns because so much of how we connect with others is driven by parts of us that developed in the context of early relationships. Getting to know those parts, understanding what they are carrying, and helping them feel safe enough to step back a little, can create space for more genuine and grounded connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Therapy can be a helpful space for understanding where your patterns come from, building new ways of relating, and exploring what is underneath the cycles that keep showing up. Change in relationships often starts with understanding yourself more deeply.
Therapy for relationship patterns focuses on your experience, your responses, and what you can understand and shift from your side. You do not need the other person to be in the room or willing to change for this work to be meaningful for you.
No. I never push toward anything that does not feel right, and I am always working with you rather than ahead of you. If exploring earlier experiences does not feel like the right fit right now, that is completely respected. Some of our work may naturally begin to draw connections to the past, but we only ever go there at a pace that feels right for you, and only when your system feels ready to go there. You remain in control of what we explore and when throughout the entire process.
