EMDR Therapy in Ontario
VIRTUAL EMDR THERAPY · ONTARIO
For when the past still feels present.Â

Some experiences stay with us longer than we expect, not because something is wrong with you, but because your nervous system learned to protect you. EMDR therapy offers a way to gently process what happened, so it no longer has to shape how you feel today.

UNDERSTANDING EMDR
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy designed to help your brain do something it already knows how to do: heal.

When something distressing happens, the memory can sometimes get stuck in the body and mind in a way that continues to feel raw or unresolved, even years later. Through guided bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps the brain gently reprocess those experiences, so they begin to lose their grip on the present. You do not need to narrate everything in detail. The work often happens at a level beyond words.

Why the Past Can Feel So Present
Sometimes, the way we react in the present is shaped by experiences that happened long before.

You may notice certain situations bring up emotions that feel unusually intense, familiar patterns seem difficult to change, or your body responds as though something from the past is happening all over again. Even when you know logically that you are safe or that things are different now, part of you may still feel stuck in an old response.

EMDR can help you process experiences that may still be carrying an emotional charge, allowing them to feel more like something that happened in the past rather than something you are continuing to relive in the present.

EMDR does not begin with diving straight into difficult memories. We start by getting to know you and what you are carrying.

When that foundation feels solid, we gently turn toward what has stayed with you, working at a pace that is always yours to set.
Before any deeper work, we build a foundation of steadiness, making sure you have tools to feel grounded both in and out of sessions.

WHERE WE MEET
Why Work With Me
I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, bringing in what fits best for where you are. No single method, no fixed script, always tailored to you.
I pay close attention to where you are at in each session, ensuring that whatever direction we move in, your system is ready and willing to go there.
Holistic & Integrative
Always Checking In With Your System
My work is grounded in helping you understand yourself on a deeper level, while exploring tools to help manage what you are feeling on the surface. Here is what you can expect. Â
When the time feels right, we can begin to explore the earlier experiences that shaped your patterns and continue to show up in your present day life.
You do not have to be ready, certain, or have it figured out. Whatever you are carrying and wherever you are starting from, there is room for all of it here.

Not necessarily. We go through a brief history together so we have a sense of what to focus on, but much of the actual processing happens without needing to talk extensively about what occurred. This is one of the things that makes EMDR particularly meaningful for people who want to address what they have been through without having to talk through all of it first.
That is completely okay and more common than you might think. Before any processing begins we spend time building steadiness and making sure you feel grounded both inside and outside of sessions. Nothing moves forward without it feeling right. Some people spend several sessions or longer in this preparation phase and that is a completely valid part of the process.
Yes. EMDR adapts well to virtual delivery and I offer it to adults across Ontario via secure video through Jane. I walk you through everything before we begin so you know exactly what to expect from an online session.
This varies from person to person depending on what you are working through and how you respond. EMDR follows a structured process that begins with building stability before moving into deeper work, and not everyone moves through every phase the same way. We check in regularly and adjust based on how things are feeling.
No. Although it was originally developed for trauma, EMDR has since been found helpful for anxiety, grief, emotional reactivity, negative self-beliefs, and patterns rooted in earlier experiences that keep showing up in present day life even when you cannot trace them to a clear cause.
The best way to find out is through a free 15-minute consultation. We can talk through what you are experiencing, whether EMDR feels like a good fit, and what the process might look like for you specifically. There is no commitment to continue afterward, just a conversation to see if this feels right.
